My Personal Journey to Become a Certified Health Coach

I have not always lived a healthy lifestyle. Growing up in the South, we had good lifestyle habits as well as bad ones. Good habits included eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables from local farms and having some form of exercise almost every day of the year. Some bad habits were eating lots of foods that were highly seasoned (with salt or meat) or eating fried foods especially fried chicken, which was staple food at many occasions. When I became older, I adopted healthier habits and would always do well (or what I thought was doing well) for a few months but then fluctuate due to life’s changes or events.

When I thought that I was making better choices, I was not. There is a lot of information about health and wellness that can be overwhelming, ever-changing and confusing. I believe the first step to making better choices is awareness. After you are aware of what you are doing incorrectly in terms of diet and exercise, you can learn to make better choices and achieve your wellness goals.

Knowledge is power, and with the right education about healthy living, unhealthy habits can be broken and replaced with good ones. My husband, who was my first health coaching client lost 52 pounds over a one year period by making simple lifestyle changes. Practicing these principles was one of the best transitions my family has ever made, and I am excited about sharing these life-changing tools and information with you. As your health coach, I am here to help you navigate all of the information, be aware of your lifestyle and to help you make simple changes. These simple changes go a long way in helping you to feel better, think better and increase your energy levels. Since the rates of obesity and preventable (but chronic) diseases such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes and heart disease are increasing, it is important that as we age, we establish habits that promote longevity and not disease.

The coaching that I have received from Coach Whitmon helped me to lose 25 pounds over a three month period. The best thing about her program is that even if I get off track, I have the knowledge about food choices to be able to get back on track. C. Thomas
